What Is Kata?
Kata is the name given to a set series of between 20 - 70 Karate moves which must be performed accurately and with perfect timing. Kata is used in many styles of martial arts and Kyokushinkai Karate is well known for it's high standard of Kata training. Kata plays a very important part in martial arts training. Regular practice of Katas not only perfects & strengthens traditional karate techniques, but is also excellent training for becoming a strong, agile fighter. In Kyokushinkai Karate, there are 19 Katas which form part of the grading syllabus, as well as two Kihon katas. (Kihon Katas perfect breathing, concentration, balance, co-ordination & focus).
